Appearances

Travel photographs/2005-2012

This series is woven around the idea of reality coming unstuck, of diffuse magic – in other words: the question of appearances.
A vision arises from the photographs, one that seems to lift reality a few inches above the ground. As with haiku, where very short poems are written in the course of a daydream, these photos correspond to moments brought to a standstill, when we stop and our gaze catches a fleeting impression, where the poetic and the prosaic are combined. Moments when our gaze catches solitude (sometimes even in a teeming city); the rest of the world has disappeared.
To catch these aberrations, and their slightly unreal atmosphere, to sometimes mix two of them, is also to try to offer images into which each person can project his own story.
